Noreen Pirog, Math Interventionist
Hi! My name is Noreen Pirog and I'm the Math Interventionist at Beeman Elementary and Monkton Central Schools. This is my 19th year in education! I spent 6 years as a classroom teacher, 2 years as a math coach and this is my 11th year as a math interventionist. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a degree in elementary education and I earned my masters degree through the Vermont Mathematics Initiative (VMI) at the University of Vermont. This is my third year working with the mighty mathematicians at Beeman and Monkton.
I am a self proclaimed "math geek" and I'm told my enthusiasm for math is contagious. I spent most of my life (through early adulthood!) struggling with math and consider myself to be a "recovering math-phobe". It wasn't until I took a class to learn to teach Math Recovery that I got over my fear of math. It was like I had gone through life with blurred vision and someone handed me a pair of glasses. For the first time I could "see" math concepts clearly and it FINALLY made sense to me! It was so exciting!! Since I know what it's like to feel intimidated and frustrated by math, it's my passion to help people build understanding, make sense of and appreciate the beauty of math.
When I'm not geeking out over math, I enjoy nature photography, singing, jigsaw puzzles, playing games and spending time with my family.
